About the Author

Yu Hua was born in 1960 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. He is an eminent Chinese writer; his best-known works include To Live and Chronicles of a Blood Merchant. In 1998, his novel To Live won the Italian award-Grinzane Cavour Award, and Special Book Award of China in 2005. His experience in the Cultural Revolution in China was one of the major themes of his works.
